At its deepest, Lake Zaribar is about six meters and it often freezes over during the winter.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – One of the largest freshwater sources in Iranian Kurdistan, Lake Zrebar of Mariwan, is surrounded by dense forests and often freezes in the winter.

The body of water is 720 hectares in area and nearly 1.3 kilometers above sea level. It is about six kilometers long, between 1.7 to 3.0 kilometers wide, and its deepest point is six meters.

The water volume in the lake varies throughout the year between 22.5 to 47.5 million cubic meters.

Zrebar is located in the northeast of the city of Mariwan in the Kurdistan province of western Iran, about six kilometers away from the city center; it is considered one of the most important natural attractions for tourists visiting the region.

The lake is located 10 kilometers away from the Kurdistan Region from the border.
