ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) has appointed a new spokesperson, a decision that was announced following the annual meeting of military councils of the SDF in Hasakah city.

“The General Command of SDF appoints Aram Hanna as the spokesperson, succeeding Kino Gabriel who has made a great effort in his mission,” Farhad Shami, the head of the SDF Office of Media and Information, tweeted.

Both Aram Hanna and Kino Gabriel are senior leaders in the Syriac Military Council (SMC), founded in 2013 to protect Christian populations in Syria and is part of the US-led coalition-backed SDF.

Kino Gabriel was appointed spokesperson of the SDF in November 2017, after Talal Silo allegedly defected to Turkey.

“Aram has actively fought against ISIS and Turkish-supported groups as a commander of Syriac Military Council @SyriacMFS for years,” Zana Amedi, a member of the SDF Office of Media and Information added in a tweet.

Hanna was previously the spokesperson for the SMC and spoke last year with Kurdistan 24 about attacks by Turkish-backed groups near Tal Tamr.
