ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Iraqi Air Force attacked “important” ISIS targets north of Baghdad, the Security Media Cell announced early Thursday.

Following “accurate intelligence”, Iraqi aircraft attacked “important targets” of the “ISIS terrorist gang north of the capital, Baghdad,” the Security Media Cell tweeted.

“The Iraqi Air Force carried out the second strike on the rest of the criminal terrorist group north of Baghdad,” the Cell added in a second tweet a few hours later.

Iraq carries out regular airstrikes against suspected ISIS targets in the north of the country, primarily using its F-16s, L-159s, and Su-25 aircraft.

The US-led coalition often highlights Iraq’s capability to target ISIS, especially now that it has ended its combat mission in Iraq and are only in the country to advise and assist Iraqi and Kurdish forces.

On Monday, Iraqi F-16s targeted eight suspected ISIS hideouts.

“These series of successful anti-Daesh airstrikes allow #Iraqi_Air_Force to demonstrate just how they have the skills needed to perform their mission: strength, precision, determination, & endurance,” tweeted the official account of the US-led coalition on Wednesday, using the Arabic acronym for ISIS.

“We are proud to #AdviseAssistEnable them,” the tweet concluded.
