ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday condemned the rocket attack that targeted the fortified Green Zone in central Baghdad late Thursday.

A rocket attack targeted the US Embassy in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad Thursday evening, reportedly wounding two civilians in areas close to the Green Zone.

Iraq "categorically condemns any action that destabilizes Iraq's security and stability," the ministry said in a statement, claiming it has taken steps to prosecute the perpetrators of such attacks.

"We reaffirm our commitment to providing security and protection for diplomatic missions and adopting all means necessary to facilitate their work consistent with our obligations under international agreements."

The Thursday attack follows repeated assaults from pro-Iranian militias on US and Coalition targets in Iraq. Only on Sunday did the Biden administration break with the restraint it had previously shown in not attributing the attacks to any particular party.
