ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – A total of 350 students in the northeastern Syrian cities of Hasakah and Qamishli recently completed their basic level vocational training courses, the US Agency for International Development (USAID) said.

“USAID offered courses in sewing, food processing, men’s and women’s hairdressing and cosmetics, computer networking, and photography,” USAID said.

The official Twitter account of the coalition against ISIS thanked the USAID “for empowering women and men in Hasakah and Qamishli to gain life and employment skills, while contributing to the wellbeing of conflict-affected communities in NE Syria.”

The United States, through USAID and the US Department of State, works on several projects in northeast Syria and Syria as a whole. This includes projects in Hasakah, Deir al-Zour.

Since the start of the crisis in 2012, the United States has provided more than $11.3 billion in humanitarian assistance to help Syrians in need.

According to a recent USAID report, nearly 12 million people are displaced within Syria or have fled to neighboring countries.

“Approximately 60% of the current population—or 11.7 million people—are in need of humanitarian aid.”
