ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Region and Qatar have decided to form joint technical teams to oversee their economic and investment ties, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Minister of Planning Dara Rashid told Kurdistan 24 on Wednesday.

The major themes of the meetings between Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Qatari authorities, including Emir Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, have been enhancing trade, investment, and energy ties.

Kurdish and Qatari authorities have discussed ways of developing trade relations and agreed to “form joint technical teams” to further follow up on areas of mutual benefit, Rashid added.

According to the minister, Prime Minister Barzani decided to form the joint committees after Qatari officials sought tangible results from their meetings.

Among other areas of trade relations, discussions on oil and natural gas have dominated meetings between the Kurdish and Qatari authorities.

“Teams from both governments to explore areas, including in renewables and energy investment,” Barzani tweeted following his meeting with the Qatari energy minister.

He said the Kurdistan Region’s “huge gas potential” was also on the agenda.

The prime minister arrived in Qatar on Tuesday following an official invitation.

It’s the second trip he has taken to the Gulf region in less than a month. In late January, he visited the UAE and met with Mohamed bin Zayed, the crown prince of Abu Dhabi.
