ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has expressed his condolences to the families of two Kurdish Peshmergas and a number of Iraqi soldiers who were killed in Qarachogh, according to a statement from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

"My condolences go out to the families of Colonel Qahar Jawhar Qahar and Hawre Jawhar Rahman," the Prime Minister said.

Barzani also extended his condolences to the families of the deceased Iraqi army soldiers.

On Sunday, the Peshmerga and the Iraqi army exchanged fire in the Makhmour district, resulting in the deaths of two Peshmergas and several Iraqi army soldiers.

The firefight occurred after the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) evacuated its military checkpoints on the border between Makhmour camp and Mount Qarachogh and handed them over to the Iraqi army, who have further been able to establish more military checkpoints formerly belonging to the Peshmerga.
