KRG Health Minister launches investigation into alleged burial of aborted fetuses
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Minister of Health, Saman Barzanji, has announced an investigation into allegations that aborted fetuses are being buried in a cemetery.
He emphasized that this sensitive issue involves aspects of Islamic Sharia, law, science, and medicine.
In a press conference on Thursday, Minister Barzanji revealed that a committee of inquiry has been formed and that the prosecutor general has been contacted to assist in the investigation.
Preliminary investigations have begun, and suspects have been identified. The committee aims to determine whether the buried remains are indeed those of fetuses.
Minister Barzanji underscored the sensitivity of the issue, noting its wide-ranging implications for society.
He reiterated that all public and private hospitals in the region have clear guidelines on abortion procedures. He assured that strict legal measures would be taken against any violations.
On Tuesday, the Ministry of Health issued a statement detailing the formation of the inquiry committee. The committee's mandate is to investigate the truth, causes, and any negligence related to health guidelines on abortion and the handling of aborted remains.
The investigation, conducted in collaboration with the prosecutor's office, aims to identify violators, take appropriate legal action, and keep the public informed of the results.
The investigation was prompted by reports on social media alleging that an unusually high number of aborted fetuses were being buried in a cemetery.
These claims have raised concerns among citizens, leading to the Ministry of Health's decisive action to uncover the facts and ensure adherence to legal and ethical standards in medical practices.
