World Hepatitis Day conference raising awareness in Dohuk

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Duhok has reported over 2,300 cases of hepatitis B, with approximately 100 new cases emerging annually, according to Dr. Sagvan Hassan, head of the prevention department of the Duhok General Directorate of Health.

Speaking at a news conference during the World Hepatitis Day conference, Dr. Sagvan emphasized the ongoing efforts to control and prevent the spread of the disease.

"We aim to control the disease and prevent it from spreading," he said. "We will treat the infected individuals and promote health awareness through publications and posters."

Dr. Sagvan highlighted the primary transmission routes of hepatitis B, including blood transfusions, sexual contact, and the use of contaminated objects.

"We want to point out the ways of spreading the disease through blood transfusions, sex, and the use of dirty objects, so we want to prevent the spread of the disease and treat patients," he explained.

The Duhok General Directorate of Health remains committed to mitigating the impact of hepatitis B through education, treatment, and preventive measures.
