ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Zhala Zirak, Director of the Duhok office of the Directorate of Real Estate Taxation, announced that the decision to exempt tax surpluses has been extended once again, providing a significant opportunity for citizens to settle their tax debts.

Speaking to Kurdistan24, Zirak said, "The decision to exempt taxes was a good opportunity for citizens, and a lot of work has been done for those citizens who owe taxes and have not paid for several years."

She highlighted that some citizens have been in debt for over ten years and will benefit from this exemption. "The decree was issued in April, but this is the second time it has been extended by the Kurdistan Regional Government," she added.

"This decision has become a support for citizens to come and pay their taxes," Zirak noted. "A large number of citizens have visited the tax office and paid their taxes because, under this decision, the interest has been withdrawn, and they only need to pay the principal amount."

On July 23, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani ordered the suspension of several taxes to alleviate the financial burden on citizens and professionals in the Kurdistan Region. The Prime Minister's directive included the suspension of taxes on restaurants and hotels, private hospitals, restaurants and bakeries, and vacant land.

The directive also mentioned that the collection of these taxes would be suspended until the tax collection procedures with federal agencies are regulated and amendments to the law are made.
