Embezzlement of century sounds worse amid ongoing investigation
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – The amount of money stolen from Iraq's Rafidain Bank, known as the larceny of the Century, is increasing with each investigation. The latest data from the Iraqi Commission of Integrity (CoI) revealed the amount went up to six trillion and 500 billion dinars, yet a former member of the Iraqi Government's Anti-Corruption Board disclosed the amount is much higher, it is about 12 trillion dinars.
Initially, it was reported that about three trillion and 700 billion dinars were stolen, according to the figures released by CoI, it estimated as six trillion and 500 billion dinars were stolen.

The observers believe the amount is much higher, it is about 12 trillion dinars.
Saeed Yasin, a former member of the Iraqi Government's Anti-Corruption Committee, announced “the stolen money is almost 12 trillion dinars, however the board that runs the investigation, does not want to disclose more information, due to the impact on the results of the ongoing investigations.”
In 2022, during Mustafa al-Kadhemi's government’s cabinet, the embezzlement of century was uncovered.
It was initially reported that the 3.7 trillion dinars under the file of state’s tax- revenue were deposited in banks between September 2021 and August 2022. Later in that year, through five cheques, the company would take the money.
According to the sources, the larcenists of the century, were also involved in the embezzlement, and the number of suspects is higher than initially announced.
