Prime Minister, Masrour Barzani visited Qaysari Bazaar

The Premier made sure the shopkeepers would be assisted financially according to their ability and size of the damages also there are attempts to reopen the market soon.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) - Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw announced in a press conference that the Prime Minister, Masrour Barzani visited Qaysari Bazaar market in Erbil on Thursday.

The Prime Minister’s purpose of the visit to the market was to provide a financial assistance between 2 to 20 million Iraqi dinars to each shopkeeper damages occurred by the fire incident happened.

The Prime Minister, Masrour Barzani, on Thursday afternoon, visited the reconstruction works of the Qaysari Bazaar in Erbil and listened closely to the shopkeepers and retailers’ requests. 

The Prime Minister instructed the relevant governmental authorities to speed the repair and reconstruction on the market.

A fire broke out in a part of the Qaisary Bazaar market in Erbil in the night of May 5th, 2024 and was controlled by the Erbil fire brigade after several hours.

The Spokesman for the Federal’s Ministry of Interior, Miqdad Mir sated “network belonged to the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and two members of the 70th Peshmerga and anti-terrorism units in Sulaimani were behind all the fires occurred in Erbil, Kirkuk and the rest of Kurdistan Region.

The latest statistics showed that 227 out of more than 4000 shops seven small warehouses in the market burnt down and damaged.

The budget allocated to the reconstruction of the market is than 5 billion and 300 million dinars, the Kurdistan Regional Government waived 50% for 2023 and 100% for 2024, as well as to assist retailers with clearing garbage fees, signs and taxes.

Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw, previously, advised Kurdistan24 that Prime Minister, Masrour Barzani prepared a plan to support the shopkeepers whose shops burnt down.
