Anbar Deputy Governor, three others killed in Kirkuk-Tikrit road accident

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – A devastating traffic collision on the Kirkuk-Tikrit road claimed the lives of Anbar Deputy Governor Safaa al-Rishawi and three others, a security source confirmed.

The accident involved a Land Cruiser, in which al-Rishawi was traveling, and a large truck. The collision resulted in the Land Cruiser catching fire, tragically killing all four occupants, including the deputy governor.

This incident adds to the grim tally of traffic accidents in Iraq, which frequently occur on highways and result in fatalities, injuries, and significant property damage.

The security source, speaking to local media, said, "The Land Cruiser was carrying four people, one of whom was the deputy governor of Anbar, Safaa al-Rishawi."

According to Iraq’s Ministry of Planning spokesperson Abdel-Zahra al-Hindawi, 11,552 traffic accidents occurred last year, resulting in 3,262 deaths and 8,271 injuries. These figures represent a 71.8% increase compared to the previous year, encompassing all provinces except the Kurdistan Region.
