ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – On Tuesday, Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masoud Barzani met with Stephen Charles Hitchen, the British Ambassador to Iraq, in Pirmam district, Erbil, to discuss a range of political and security issues, according to a statement from Barzani Headquarters.

The meeting was also attended by Andrew Bizley, the British Consul General in Erbil, and focused on several key topics, including the political landscape in Iraq, the relationship between the Iraqi Federal Government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), and the outcomes of Barzani's recent visit to Baghdad.

President Barzani and the British delegation also discussed the upcoming October parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region. Barzani emphasized the importance of conducting the elections fairly, transparently, and without any challenges.

Another focal point of the discussions was the presence of coalition forces in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. Both sides highlighted the necessity of maintaining coordination and cooperation between coalition forces and the Iraqi military to ensure stability and security in the region.

The meeting underscored the ongoing cooperation between the United Kingdom and the Kurdistan Region, particularly in areas of political dialogue and security collaboration.

As an integral part of the 86-member of Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, Britain has been assisting the Kurdish and Iraqi forces in the fight against the terror group, whose self-styled caliphate was brought down in 2017 in the country.
