79 Mass graves exhumed in Iraq

The first mass grave was discovered in Iraq on May 16, 2003. 16th of May of each year is recognized as a day of Mass Grave in Iraq.

Erbil (Kurdistan 24) - Today May 16, is the annual anniversary of the Mass Grave in Iraq, and it is recognized as a Mass Grave because the first one was found on May 16, 2003.

During Baath regime thousands of people buried alive, one of the very famous ones is 182 thousand Kurds, therefore Iraq is recognized as the country of mass grave.

The mass grave is back to the time of Baath regime before 2003 and then ISIS in 2014.

The crime of the mass grave was committed by Baath regime. According to the Iraqi data base 95 places are recognized as mass graves. 79 have been exhumed and 16 are left.

Among the 79 places 158 graves have been discovered which embed four thousands of human remains.

In general, before and after 2003 the total places recognized as mass grave in Iraq are 216, 130 places exhumed and 86 are left. In those 130 places 288 mass grave have been exhumed that embeds one thousand and 370 human remains.
