ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani marked a significant milestone in the region's water resource management and infrastructure development by laying the foundation stone of the Dwin Dam in Erbil province on Monday.
During the ceremony, Prime Minister Barzani highlighted the strategic importance of the dam's location, emphasizing its suitability for water storage. He noted that the project design has been carefully revised to safeguard the region's historical monuments while maximizing the dam's water storage capacity.
Barzani also stressed the critical role of the government's strategic water plan in securing the region's future, stating, "Our strategic water plan has a profound impact on the present and future of our country. Harvesting our rainwater and springs is one of our main measures to combat climate change and the consequences of drought."
He called on citizens to actively participate in environmental preservation efforts, stating, "We will continue our plans, and we ask our citizens to protect the cleanliness of our environment and help us preserve this beautiful nature of the Kurdistan Region, making it a place that attracts tourists from all over the world."
Barzani concluded his address by reiterating the government's commitment to sustainable development and its vision for a prosperous Kurdistan.
