President Barzani: Treat the wounded from Rojava

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The first wounded civilian from the city of Qamishlo arrived in the Kurdistan Region, crossing the Semelka border.

Rabiaa Ramazan, 49, a Kurd from Syrian Kurdistan (Rojava), was injured in the clashes between the Kurdish security forces (Asayish) and Syrian regime forces.

Ramazan, who was shot in the stomach on Wednesday, was transferred to Zakho hospital to receive proper medical treatment. “We did the first set of tests for her, and soon we will operate on her to remove the bullet from her body,” a doctor from Zakho hospital told Kurdistan24.

In a statement released on the Kurdistan Region Presidency website on Friday, President Barzani ordered all the Region’s related institutions to be ready to receive the wounded from Qamishlo and provide the medical attention they need.

According to a Kurdistan24 reporter from Qamishlo, the hospitals and medical clinics are mostly located near the Regime controlled areas in the city of Qamishlo.

As a result, wounded civilians and fighters are transferred to hospitals in the surrounding towns which have limited ability and cannot treat a large number of patients.

Hemin Hawrami, Head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), told Kurdistan24, “We condemn all acts of violence against Kurdish people in any parts of Kurdistan. We will be supportive of the people of Rojava [Syrian Kurds] to have a political, constitutional and legal status amid the changes taking place in the region."

On Wednesday, April 20, clashes erupted between the Syrian regime forces and Asayish forces in the Kurdish city of Qamishlo in northeast Syria. On Thursday, at least 10 civilians lost their lives as Syrian government forces shelled the Kurdish city.
