ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – In an exclusive video, a Kurdish Peshmerga engineering team defuses bombs wired by jihadists in a tunnel located in Sinjar (Shingal) city, southwestern Kurdistan Region.

Shingal is a Kurdish Yezidi (Ezidi) city that was controlled by the Islamic State (IS) on August 2014. In a successful offensive, Peshmerga forces liberated the city from insurgents on Nov. 14, 2015.

According to the Mayor of Shingal, Mahma Khalil, over 80 percent of the city has been destroyed by IS and international coalition airstrikes.

In the footage, Kurdistan24 reveals how the Peshmerga engineering team defuses improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in a 50 meter-long tunnel dug by IS inside Shingal.

The Kurdistan Region shares over 1,000 kilometers (600 miles) of its border with IS in the south.

Peshmerga forces have been marked as one of the most efficient ground forces in defeating the terrorists but complain about a lack of weapons to accelerate the process of advancing.
