Suspect who attacked Rudaw head office confesses

The Kurdistan Region Security forces on Sunday released the confession of one of the perpetrators of a bomb attack on Rudaw Media Network’s head office.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Region Security forces on Sunday released the confession of one of the perpetrators of a bomb attack on Rudaw Media Network’s head office.

On June 25, 2016, at around 12:00 p.m. Rudaw’s headquarters in Erbil was attacked, injuring two employees and three guards.

The Directorate of Erbil Security released a report stating that the perpetrators of the attack were arrested three days after the incident.

Additionally, a video of the attack on the headquarters in Erbil was released by the Directorate. The video shows the execution of the attack along with the perpetrator’s confession.

According to the confession of one of the perpetrators, Rebwar Wrya Salih, he was requested to execute the explosion in Erbil 15 days before Ramadan by a man named Saady Mustafa Abdulrahman.

“After Rebwar accepted the request, he got the training on how to use grenades by Jwamer Othman Abdulla. Along with a third person, they visited the location before executing the explosion,” the statement read.

“On the following day, Salih fixed two grenades under a car in front of Rudaw’s head office and exploded the vehicle, damaging the building and wounding five people,” the statement added.

Surveillance cameras show the moment when the perpetrator places the grenades beneath a vehicle in front of the head office and when the grenade explodes 13 minutes later.

According to the offender’s confession, the aim behind the attack was to create “a big echo,” according to the statement.

The Security Directorate concluded by assuring all sides that security forces will continue their investigation until they catch all the suspects involved.
