ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani is set to participate in the official ceremony for laying the foundation stone of the Erbil-Koya highway on Thursday at 11:00 AM.

Prime Minister Barzani announced the upcoming construction project during an event in Koya on Wednesday, Sept. 25, marking the start of the new academic year. “In the coming days, we will commence the construction of the Erbil-Koya highway, which has been a long-held aspiration of the people of Koya and Erbil,” he stated.

Barzani acknowledged the project’s long delay, saying, “I know that efforts have been made since 2012, and while the foundation stone was laid, the road has yet to be built due to various challenges.”

In addition, the Prime Minister announced the decision to elevate the administrative status of Taqtaq, one of Kurdistan’s oldest townships, to a district. “This will benefit the people of the region, reduce administrative pressure on Koya, and grant additional privileges to Taqtaq,” Barzani said, emphasizing that this upgrade will particularly benefit the citizens of Koya and Taqtaq.
