KRG’s ninth cabinet expands education sector with new schools, universities
As part of its public service initiatives, the government has made significant strides in building educational infrastructure, including opening new universities and expanding academic departments.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24)—The ninth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has prioritized expanding education and science by constructing and renovating schools and universities across the region.

During the tenure of the ninth cabinet, two universities and several institutes were established in various parts of the Kurdistan Region. These developments reflect the government’s commitment to enhancing the education sector.
Among the most notable achievements is the constructing of 194 new schools in different provinces and independent administrations. Additionally, 1,670 schools that required renovation have been restored, and 629 new classrooms were added to accommodate the growing number of students.
These efforts have been crucial in improving the learning environment for students and addressing overcrowding in many schools.
Regarding higher education, two new universities were opened during the ninth cabinet's administration. Garmian Polytechnic University was established in Kalar, while Akre University of Applied Sciences was inaugurated in Akre.
In addition to these, numerous new scientific departments were introduced in universities and colleges across various cities in the Kurdistan Region, further diversifying academic offerings.
The government has also laid the foundation for 15 schools and kindergartens, with 28 additional school projects nearing completion.
These efforts underscore the KRG's dedication to investing in education and ensuring that both urban and rural areas have access to quality educational facilities.
