Ten injured in bombing near Istanbul police station

An explosion caused by a motorcycle bomb on Thursday near the Ataturk airport in Istanbul injured up to 10 people, Turkish officials said.

ISTANBUL, Turkey (Kurdistan24) – An explosion caused by a motorcycle bomb on Thursday near the Ataturk airport in Istanbul injured up to 10 people, Turkish officials said.

The blast occurred outside a police station in the Yenibosna neighborhood near the airport where at least one person was seriously injured, Dogan news agency reported.

Ambulances arrived at the site to transport the injured to the hospital while security forces were deployed.

Police began to investigate the scene surrounded by damaged cars, broken windows, and glass.

“Five of our citizens have been wounded, one of them seriously, as a result of a motorbike with a bomb being detonated,” Istanbul governor Vasip Sahin wrote on his Twitter page earlier.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

Turkey has suffered several waves of deadly bomb attacks in the past year most of which have occurred in the Kurdish region of Turkey (Bakur).

The most recent attack, a triple suicide blast in June that killed 45 people at the airport, was blamed on IS.

A failed military coup on July 15 to overthrow the Turkish government followed the deadly airport violence.

More recently, in August, over 50 people were killed at a wedding ceremony near the city of Gaziantep.

Since then, Turkey has extended an initial three-month state of emergency for a further three months where it aims to detain those involved in the military coup.
