ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – Adnan al-Dulaimi, a well-known Iraqi Sunni politician died on Wednesday in the capital of the Kurdistan Region, a source said.
The source who wished to remain anonymous told Kurdistan24 al-Dulaimi died after years of fighting a long-term illness.
Al-Dulaimi was born in 1932 and spent almost half of his life at the Baghdad University. He started to become a prominent Iraqi politician following the fall of the dictatorship in 2003. He has been one of the leading Sunni Arab figures in Iraq since then.
He was the head of the General Council for the People of Iraq, a component of the Iraqi Accord Front (IAF) which earned 44 seats in the Iraqi parliamentary elections back in 2005.
Al-Dulaimi and his supporters have worked to strengthen and protect the position of Sunni Arabs in the Federal Government of Iraq.
After the Regime fall in 2003, the Sunni Arab community in Iraq has struggled to secure meaningful representation and found itself largely marginalized in the political administration of Iraq.
