PM Barzani addresses political stability with UNAMI official
In addition to the importance of continuing UNAMI's mission in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of strengthening its political role.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received Volker Perthes, Head of the Independent Strategic Review of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), according to a statement from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
Perthes highlighted the purpose of his visit, which is to assess the tasks and work of the United Nations Mission in Iraq (UNAMI).
In addition to the importance of continuing UNAMI's mission in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of strengthening its political role.
Barzani praised UNAMI for its work in Iraq, specifically its support for political stability, democratic principles and institutions, and the federal system.
Barzani also thanked UNAMI for its help in implementing the country’s Article 140 in its constitution, and in protecting the constitutional rights of minority communities.

In its assessment, the Independent Strategic Review of UNAMI inspected the progress of the organization in addressing the needs of the Iraqi people. It found that UNAMI had achieved some positive results but it highlighted areas for improvement. The review guided how UNAMI could further strengthen its assistance to the Iraqi people.
