ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The General Director of Agriculture in Erbil Sayed Hemin Murad revealed to Kurdistan 24 on Thursday, the wheat in Erbil this year, didn’t have any diseases.

Murad stated “The wheat in Erbil is clear from any diseases like leaf rust or yellow, head blight, leaf streak and black chaff. The common wheat to grow in Erbil is Erbil 2, Erbil 4, Koye 4 and Koye 18, those types are more suitable to ground for flour.”

He added “The type of the wheat that is appropriate to ground for bulgar (sawar) is Erbil 3, the factories depend on that type to produce the grain of wheat -sawar. Regarding Erbil 4, however the weather changed drastically, yet the Erbil 4 type stayed well tolerated and was free from the leaf rust, black chaff, and any diseases that troubled the silos to accept”

According to Murad’s talk to Kurdistan 24, the Erbil 2 and 4 crops were very successful, Koye 4 and 18 production was high, needed a low volume of watering whether by the rain or the usual watering.

It is underscored by the general director that it is the experience to know the quality seed, and which sort is the heat or hot weather tolerant because such crops are on demand.

“The imported wheat to Kurdistan Region and Iraq this year was not as good quality as the production from the General Directorate of Agriculture. The crops produced under the management of the Kurdistan Region Government’s Ministry of Agriculture are much better. The imported wheat is commercial, it’s not produced to Kurdistan weather, and it needs a larger volume of watering and rain” Murad continued.

He highlighted “The seeds grow in Kurdistan are appropriate to ground for flour, the price paid by the silos and wheat warehouses 850 thousand dinars. This pay rate is encouraging, and in comparison, to the international ones, is much higher”

“The farmers need guidance and awareness to grow the wheat. We always provided advice and guidance to our farmers, so to produce a quality and required crop” Murad ended his conversation.
