Polling station to open in Kirkuk for Kurdistan Region's parliament elections

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – A polling station is set to open in Kirkuk for the Kurdistan Parliament elections, enabling eligible voters in the city to cast their ballots.

Ali al-Bayati, a member of the media office of the Independent High Electoral Commission of Iraq, announced that "a polling center will be opened in Kirkuk Governorate for the parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region."

Al-Bayati noted that "all residents of Kirkuk Governorate who are entitled to participate in the parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region will be able to vote at this center."

On Monday, July 1, 2024, the Independent High Electoral Commission of Iraq announced that it requires over 42,000 polling staff to conduct the Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections.

Jumana al-Ghalai, the commission's spokesperson, stated, "The commission needs more than 42,000 polling staff to conduct the Kurdistan Region Parliament elections." She added that "the Board of Commissioners will determine the issue of bonuses at a later time."

Dilshad Shahab, the spokesperson for the Kurdistan Region Presidency, announced during a press conference on Wednesday, June 26, that the President of the Region, Nechirvan Barzani, signed a regional order setting the date for the next session of the Kurdistan Parliament elections.

Shahab explained that, pursuant to the order and based on paragraph (second) of Article (first) of the Kurdistan Region Presidency Law No. (1) of 2005 as amended, the President decided to set October 20, 2024, as the date for the general elections for the sixth session of the Kurdistan Parliament.

The spokesperson confirmed that the new date was set after a thorough assessment of election requirements, discussions with concerned parties, and consideration of various opinions.

According to Regional Decree No. 222 of 2024, all concerned parties must take necessary measures to cooperate and coordinate with the Independent High Electoral Commission in Iraq to implement this decree.
