ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Sunday congratulated all Muslims in Kurdistan and the world on the occasion of the Islamic New Year, also known as Hijri.

In a statement, Prime Minister Barzani expressed his warm congratulations to Muslims in Kurdistan, Iraq, and across the globe, marking the Islamic New Year.

"I extend my warmest congratulations to Muslims in Kurdistan, Iraq, and the world on the occasion of the New Year of Hijri 1446," the Premier said.

He conveyed his hopes for the coming year, asking for divine blessings. "We ask God to make the New Year a year of blessings, peace, progress, and happiness," he stated.

Prime Minister Barzani concluded his message with a personal touch, wishing joy and prosperity for all. "Happy New Year to all Muslims, and may you always be happy," he said.

The month marking the Islamic New Year is known as Muharram, and it is considered the second holiest month after Ramadan.

The lunar Hijri calendar consists of 12 months and either 354 or 355 days, approximately 11 days shorter than the Gregorian calendar. While it commences with Muharram, it ends with the observance of Dhul al-Hijjah.
