Iraqi MP targeted in assassination attempt in Baghdad

The armed assault took place at Al-Waeli's home in the al-Dawlai  area within the capital, Baghdad.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – An Iraqi member of the Council of Representatives was targeted in an assassination attempt in Baghdad on Sunday.

Acting Speaker of Parliament Mohsen al-Mandalawi has called for swift action to apprehend the perpetrators.

Al-Mandalawi condemned the attempted assassination of MP Taqi Nasser Al-Waeli and urged the Minister of Interior and the Baghdad Operations Command to expedite the arrest of those responsible and bring them to justice.

In a strong denunciation, Acting Speaker Mohsen al-Mandalawi described the attack on MP Taqi Nasser Al-Waeli and his family as cowardly. The armed assault took place at Al-Waeli's home in the al-Dawlai  area within the capital, Baghdad.

Al-Mandalawi urged the security services, led by the Minister of Interior and the Commander of Baghdad Operations, to take urgent measures to uncover the circumstances of the attack and to arrest the criminal gang responsible for this failed operation.

The Acting Speaker called on the relevant authorities to not tolerate such crimes that threaten security and stability in Baghdad and other governorates.

He emphasized the need for a proactive plan to apprehend criminal gangs and to enhance intelligence efforts to prevent future threats to the country and its citizens.
