ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - The Kurdistan Region’s Directorate of Passport and the General Directorate of Citizenship and Civil Affairs, Ministry of Interior, have introduced an electronic passport issuance system in Akre.

Residents of Bardarash, Sheikhan, and Akre districts can now obtain their passports within one hour.

Dilawar Harki, the governor of Akre district, announced the launch of the new system at a press conference on Sunday. He highlighted that the system will benefit citizens from the aforementioned districts.

"The passport issuance fee does not go to the Kurdistan Regional Government. Instead, the payment of 91,000 Iraqi Dinars is directed to the company and the Iraqi government. Payments can be made via credit cards, including Visa and MasterCard," Harki explained. He noted that cash payments are not accepted.

For those without MasterCard, Harki mentioned that the Passport Directorate has facilitated the purchase of credit cards at the service gates for the same fee, with the funds going to the federal government.

Lieutenant Didar Omar, Director General of Citizenship in the Kurdistan Region, added, “The passports issued are of type 'B' and are secure against forgery. Applicants can receive their passports within one hour.”
