KRG concludes wheat collection, awaits distribution of remaining payments to farmers

The shortfall of 14,025.06 tons was attributed to not meeting the requirements set by the Federal Ministry of Trade.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - On Sunday, the Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Trade and Industry announced that Saturday, July 20, 2024, marked the final day for receiving wheat from farmers in the region's silos.

According to the ministry's statement, the initial target was to collect 700,000 tons of wheat, distributed as follows:
- 282,000 tons in Sulaimani
- 228,000 tons in Erbil
- 189,000 tons in Duhok

During the collection period, a total of 685,974.94 tons of wheat were received:
- 277,459.42 tons from Sulaimani
- 222,159.76 tons from Erbil
- 186,355.76 tons from Duhok

The shortfall of 14,025.06 tons was attributed to not meeting the requirements set by the Federal Ministry of Trade.

The total amount owed to farmers is approximately 590 billion dinars. Of this, 74.5 billion dinars have already been distributed:
- 28 billion dinars for Sulaimani
- 17 billion dinars for Erbil
- 29.5 billion dinars for Duhok

The remaining 515 billion dinars is expected to be deposited into the Ministry of Trade and Industry’s bank account shortly. Following the completion of administrative procedures, these funds will be distributed to the farmers.
