ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - On Monday, the second Baghdad Regional International Conference on Drug Control was held in the Iraqi capital, where Iraq's Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani delivered a keynote speech emphasizing Iraq's coordinated efforts to combat drug trafficking and terrorism.

In his address, Iraq's Prime Minister al-Sudani highlighted the profound societal impacts of drug abuse and illegal substances.

"We have coordinated with other countries to fight terrorist groups and drug traffickers at an international level,” he stated.

He warned that drug traffickers are actively seeking to weaken Iraq by targeting the youth, eroding cultural and family structures, and hindering the country's development and economy.

"Drug traffickers aim to destroy the foundation of our society. They are trying to weaken our country, prevent development, and undermine our economy. This is what we are fighting against. By laying out a clear strategy, we can be successful in our efforts," al-Sudani declared.

He also addressed regional instability, noting the risk of war expansion and the suffering endured by the people of Gaza.

He emphasized that drug trafficking operations are typically conducted by organized gangs and stressed the importance of special monitoring and forming committees to combat this "terrible phenomenon."

"Our goal is clear: to protect Iraqi society from all threats and dangers that could destroy and dismantle Iraqi families,” he stressed.

Al-Sudani reiterated his commitment to supporting the Ministry of Interior in its efforts to suppress these destructive activities. “We must unite our efforts to protect our society,” he concluded.
