Erbil Municipality’s green initiative: over 784,000 trees and flowers planted in five years

The efforts of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) ninth cabinet underscore a commitment to enhancing urban green spaces and promoting ecological well-being in the region.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Erbil Municipality has achieved significant milestones in urban greening over the past five years, according to figures released on Tuesday by the Directorate of Gardens and Parks Engineering. From 2019 to June 2024, more than 784,000 trees and flowers have been produced and planted in various parts of the city.

Annual Breakdown of Planting Efforts:

2019:

- Trees and Shrubs: 60,000

- Flowers: 80,000

2020:

- Trees and Shrubs: 93,200

- Flowers: 75,100

- Tree Planting Area: 316,625 square meters

2021:

- Trees and Shrubs: 70,000

- Flowers: 80,000

- Tree Planting Area: 90,930 square meters

2022:

- Trees and Shrubs: 90,100

- Flowers: 34,300

2023:

- Trees and Shrubs: 78,100

- Flowers: 35,648

In total, the Erbil Municipality has planted 361,048 trees and shrubs, along with 423,400 various flowers, transforming the city’s landscape and contributing to environmental sustainability.
