ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Dozens of residents from the districts of Kufa and al-Meshkhab, south of Najaf, staged demonstrations protesting the deteriorating electricity supply amidst soaring temperatures.

The protesters set tires ablaze and blocked the iron bridge, the sole entry route from Najaf into the district. This act of civil disobedience highlighted the growing frustration among residents over the unreliable power supply.

Security sources from the Iraqi Ministry of Interior reported that the protests, which started last night, had created a precarious situation in the region. Demonstrators, incensed by the power outages, continued their activities into Thursday morning.

Many gathered in front of power stations, obstructed streets, and burned tires, escalating the tension.

The unrest underscores the urgent need for the authorities to address the worsening electricity crisis, especially as temperatures continue to rise, putting additional strain on the already fragile power infrastructure.
