ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Iraqi Ministry of Interior has formed a committee to establish regulations governing the movement of delivery vehicles within cities, aiming to curb the exploitation of this profession for criminal activities.

On Thursday, Brigadier General Miqdad Miri, the spokesperson for the Iraqi Federal Interior Ministry, announced in a press conference, "The committee will organize all workers in this field, collect their information, and verify their security profiles."

This initiative follows the ministry's observations of delivery services being misused for crimes such as murder, theft, and drug trafficking.

"A regulatory mechanism is necessary to support those earning a living through this work and to prevent criminal gangs from infiltrating the profession," Miri emphasized.

The committee's efforts are expected to benefit delivery workers significantly. For instance, in cases of road closures, authorized delivery vehicles will be allowed to move due to their security identification.

Additionally, should new controls be implemented for two-wheeled vehicles, registered delivery vehicles will be exempted as they are documented in the General Traffic Directorate's database.

"The ministry has noted multiple instances where the delivery profession has been exploited for criminal activities, necessitating this regulatory framework," Miri concluded.
