KRG to develop a 10-year master plan for electricity sector

Erbil (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has announced plans to develop a comprehensive master plan for the next decade, focusing on the electricity sector.

The Ministry of Electricity of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRG) revealed that a draft of this 10-year master plan, covering the period from 2023 to 2032, was recently presented by Yasin Hassan, the Director of Planning and Research.

Following the presentation, experts from the ministry engaged in discussions to refine the draft plan.

This initiative marks the first time that the Ministry of Electricity's master plan has been updated entirely by local engineering staff from the General Directorate of Planning.

The plan outlines a strategic approach to enhancing the electricity sector, with the goal of improving service delivery to the region's partners.

The draft master plan includes a detailed list of projects slated for implementation over the next decade. These projects encompass the construction of power plants, the development of transmission lines, and various other initiatives within the electricity sector.
