ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Barzan Qasab, the Director of Security in Erbil, issued a stern warning on Friday, declaring that anyone who gifts weapons during the upcoming election campaign will face legal consequences.

In a statement, Qasab emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and safety during the election period, urging political parties and candidates to avoid using weapons in their campaigns. "We hope that no unwanted incidents will occur during the election campaign, and we ask all parties and candidates not to campaign with weapons because it is not allowed," the statement read.

Qasab also cautioned against the practice of giving weapons as gifts to any political entity, stating that violators would be prosecuted. "We also ask that no one gives weapons as gifts to any party because they will be brought to court through the prosecutor general and will be punished," he added.

The Independent High Election Commission (IHEC) is set to begin the election campaign for the Kurdistan Region parliamentary election in mid-September, raising concerns about potential security risks during the period.

Authorities are on high alert to ensure that the campaign season proceeds without incidents, and this recent statement from Erbil's security chief underscores the government's commitment to enforcing the law.
