ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The 17th Grape and Honey Fair will be held in Duhok from September 10 to 20, 2024, as announced by the province's General Directorate of Agriculture.

The Fair, which will take place at the Family Mall, aims to support the private sector and showcase domestic agricultural products, following a recommendation by Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.

Ahmad Jameel, Director General of Agriculture for Duhok Governorate, revealed that this year's grape production has seen a 20% increase, reaching approximately 60,000 tons, up from 48,000 tons last year.

The increase in production is attributed to favorable conditions despite the previous year's heavy rains that had damaged the crops.

However, honey production in Duhok has declined this year due to adverse weather conditions, particularly heavy rainfall.

Last year, honey production was recorded at 127,077 tons, but this year’s yield is expected to be lower.

The Fair will feature 35 gardeners and 35 beekeepers, aiming to foster collaboration among farmers from Duhok and other provinces in the Kurdistan Region.

The event will also serve as a platform for exchanging knowledge and promoting local products.

Jameel emphasized the importance of the Fair in supporting local farmers and marketing their products, noting that Duhok produces over 45,000 tons of strawberries annually, with 125 varieties grown in the region.
