ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – A team of Italian archaeologists has been diligently working in the Akre district, unearthing historical remnants and artifacts that are shedding light on the area's rich past.
Over the last two years, their explorations in the Bazhera village have yielded significant findings. "We've discovered artifacts suggesting occupation even before the Ottoman era, potentially dating back to the Abbasid period," one archaeologist revealed to Kurdistan 24.
With meticulous care, the team is slowly uncovering clues from the site, hoping to gain a comprehensive understanding of its architectural history.
This knowledge will be crucial in accurately renovating the site and transforming it into a tourist destination.
The Head of the Archeology Directorate in Akre expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with the team.
"We plan to coordinate with them to obtain precise data for the renovation process," he said. "The collected evidence suggests this site holds significant historical importance and has great potential for attracting tourists."
The Akre area boasts an impressive 265 registered historical and ancient landmarks. Through excavation and exploration, authorities aim to uncover the area's hidden history and share it with the world.
This initiative not only enriches our understanding of the past but also promises to stimulate tourism and boost the local economy.
