KRG parliamentary election campaign set to begin on September 16, says IHEC official

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The campaign for the sixth session of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections is slated to begin on September 16, 2024, according to an official from the Iraqi Independent High Election Commission (IHEC).
Khalid Abbas, head of the Duhok office of the IHEC, told Kurdistan24 that the campaign will continue until 24 hours before the start of the voting process.
The commission reported that a total of 2,899,578 people in the Kurdistan Region have received biometric voting cards, making them eligible to participate in the upcoming elections. Of these, 2,683,618 voters will participate in the general election, while 215,960 voters are registered for the special election.
The IHEC has established 1,431 polling stations across the region, including 1,266 designated for general voting and 165 for special voting.
The commission also announced that the special voting process for the sixth session of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) parliamentary elections will take place on October 18, 2024, with the general voting following on October 20.
