PM Masrour Barzani, new Coalition Commander discuss anti-ISIS efforts, Peshmerga reforms

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – On Thursday, Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with the newly appointed commander-in-chief of coalition forces in Iraq and Syria, Maj. Gen. Kevin C. Leahy, accompanied by a delegation.

The meeting, which also included Steve Bitner, the U.S. Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, focused on the security situation in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and Syria, as well as ongoing efforts to combat the threat of ISIS and terrorism.

Prime Minister Barzani congratulated Maj. Gen. Leahy on his new role and expressed his gratitude on behalf of the Kurdistan Region for the continued support provided by the United States and its allies.

Maj. Gen. Leahy emphasized the importance of the strong partnership between the Kurdistan Region and the United States, highlighting the value of their joint efforts in the fight against terrorism.

The discussion also covered the progress of Peshmerga forces' unification and ongoing reforms within the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs.
