Growing local tomato meets domestic needs
As it was understood, tomatos in Haji Omaran, Sidakan, Shekhan and Penjwen are ripe. Growing tomatos in those four areas now meet the local demand.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – In an interview with the General Director of Agriculture in Erbil, Sayed Hemin Murad, stated to Kurdistan24, on Saturday, “last week, the price of tomatoes reached 1.500 to 1.750 because we opened the border checkpoints then later controlled them back to support farmers and domestic production”
Murad raised an important point in agricultural view “we would not allow importing because we knew the domestic production that would stop somewhere, starts in another,”
As it is understood, tomatos in Haji Omaran, Sidakan, Shekhan and Penjwen are ripe. Growing tomatos in those four areas, now, meet the local demand, the price is very cheap, between 350 and 750 dinars per a kilogram.
“Today, farmers were allowed to export their production, therefore, more than 100 tons of tomatoes have been exported to Baghdad, to maintain a balance between farmers and local buyers,” He further explained “if the price would fall further, the farmers get the loss more,"
Murad revealed, the plan that was set by the General Directorate, was 100% successful, therefor, the local production expected to meet domestic needs.
According to the successful plan, the days tomato price was dearer, the higher prices would be tolerated, so as the farmers wouldn’t lose, and at the same time importing wasn’t allowed to enter to Kurdistan Region markets.
