Delayed autumn rains expected in Kurdistan due to La Niña

Kamal told Kurdistan 24 that the delay is due to the influence of the weak La Niña phenomenon in the eastern and central Pacific Ocean.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The first autumn rains in the Kurdistan Region are expected to be delayed this year, according to meteorologist and seismologist Mohammed Kamal.

Kamal told Kurdistan 24 that the delay is due to the influence of the weak La Niña phenomenon in the eastern and central Pacific Ocean.

"Based on current maps and data, the first rain is expected to fall in November, particularly between November 15 and November 25. This will likely be semi-widespread rain across the Kurdistan Region," he stated.

Kamal further explained, "The conditions in the reservoir until the end of this year and into winter indicate that the level of snow and rain will increase, leading to good rainfall. Heavy rain is also expected in mid-December."

He also noted that the Mediterranean Sea is expected to be highly active this year, resulting in Duhok, Mosul, Erbil, and the autonomous administrations of those three provinces receiving the most rain.
