ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - The Iraqi National Security Services (INSS) has apprehended two foreigners on drug trafficking charges in the southern province of Basra.

The individuals were found to be concealing crystalline drugs within several baby milk bottles.

In an official statement, the INSS emphasized the constant efforts by drug traffickers to devise new and innovative methods for smuggling narcotics. However, the agency reaffirmed its commitment to combating these illicit activities.

"Drug traffickers are constantly trying new and different ways to traffic drugs, but our forces have been able to overcome the traffickers' deception," the statement read.

While the INSS confirmed the arrest of a foreign man and woman in Basra, they did not disclose the nationalities of the suspects. The agency underscored its vigilance in thwarting attempts to smuggle drugs into the country.

The arrests highlight the ongoing challenges posed by drug trafficking in Iraq, particularly in its southern regions, which have become key transit points for narcotics. The INSS's actions demonstrate the government's dedication to tackling this issue and ensuring the safety and security of its citizens.
