Iraqi Security Forces Dismantle Two Drug Networks in Baghdad

Erbil (Kurdistan 24) - The General Directorate of Intelligence and Security (DGIS) of the Ministry of Defense reported on Thursday, the successful takedown of two drug trafficking networks operating in the capital, Baghdad.

The operation, conducted under the guidance of Defense Minister Thabet al-Abbasi, led to the seizure of 13,000 narcotic pills.

In one operation, detachments from the Baghdad Intelligence and Security Directorate apprehended a four-member network involved in narcotics trade.

The arrests resulted in the confiscation of 8,000 narcotic pills and 5,000 narcotic ampoules. The suspects have been charged under Article 28 of the Narcotics Law.

In a separate operation, security forces in Baghdad arrested five additional drug dealers. They seized a quantity of crystal meth, drug paraphernalia, various weapons, and ammunition.

All those arrested have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further legal action.

These operations underscore the ongoing efforts of the Iraqi security forces to combat the illegal drug trade and maintain public safety in the capital.
