Campaign for upcoming election set to begin on Sept. 25

A total of 1,190 candidates will compete for seats in the Kurdistan Parliament.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The official election campaign for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) parliamentary elections will commence on Wednesday, Sept. 25, and conclude on Oct. 15, ahead of the parliamentary vote scheduled for later in October.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Judge Omar Mohamed, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), announced the Board's approval of the candidate list for the upcoming elections.

A total of 1,190 candidates will compete for seats in the Kurdistan Parliament.

Judge Omar Mohamed confirmed that the election campaign will start on Sept. 25 and will continue until Oct. 15, in line with the decision made by the Board of Commissioners.

He emphasized the significance of the move, stating, "The commission has taken a big step in implementing the schedule for the sixth session of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections, which are scheduled for Oct. 20."

The IHEC has reiterated that the parliamentary elections for the Kurdistan Regional Government will take place on Oct. 20, 2024.

Seat Distribution in Kurdistan Parliament:

Erbil: 32 seats

Sulaimani: 36 seats

Duhok: 24 seats

Halabja: 3 seats

Total: 95 seats

Quota Seat Distribution:

Erbil: 2 seats

Sulaimani: 2 seats

Duhok: 1 seat

Halabja: 0 seats

Total: 5 seats

The upcoming election will mark a critical juncture for the Kurdistan Region as the political landscape continues to evolve ahead of the highly anticipated vote.
