ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Masrour Barzani, Vice President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), delivered a speech on Saturday during a meeting with investors, businessmen, and members of the Erbil Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Barzani highlighted the significance of the upcoming Kurdistan Region parliamentary elections, emphasizing that the future of the Kurdistan Region hinges on the outcome.

"This election is crucial because the future of the Kurdistan Region depends on it," KDP Vice President Masrour Barzani said, noting that the KDP has consistently honored its commitments to the Kurdish people. He traced the party's legacy back to the leadership of the late Mustafa Barzani and KDP President Masoud Barzani, emphasizing the KDP's pivotal role in the Kurdish liberation movement.

Barzani distinguished the KDP from other political parties in the Kurdistan Region, asserting that while some groups have splintered from the KDP for personal interests, the KDP has remained dedicated to serving the broader interests of the Kurdish people. "Other political parties have formed for their own interests, but the KDP was established to lead the Kurdish liberation movement," he stated.

Barzani criticized unnamed parties for allegedly undermining the Kurdistan Region's constitutional rights and collaborating with external agendas to weaken the region's institutions. He warned that some factions aim to suspend salaries and budgets from Baghdad, create division within Kurdistan, and damage the dignity of the Peshmerga forces.

"This election will determine two paths: one that protects the dignity of the Kurdistan Region and another that seeks to weaken it," Barzani said, calling on the people of Kurdistan to choose the KDP's vision for a strong and united Kurdistan.

Barzani also addressed voter apathy, urging citizens to participate in the election. "If you don't vote, others will decide your future for you," he warned. He encouraged supporters to vote for the KDP’s List 190 in the October 20th elections to secure a brighter, more stable future for the region.

In his speech, Barzani focused on the KDP's message of progress and development, contrasting it with what he described as the negative rhetoric of other parties. "We want to move towards a brighter future. We don’t want to live in darkness; we want to move towards light," he said, highlighting the party’s focus on economic growth, youth development, and improving the lives of Kurdish citizens.

Barzani concluded by thanking investors and business leaders for their support and resilience during challenging times, acknowledging their role in helping the Kurdistan Region overcome economic and political crises. "Your cooperation and participation in economic projects have kept trade and the economy moving forward in the Kurdistan Region," he said.

The upcoming parliamentary elections, scheduled for October 20th, are widely viewed as a pivotal moment for the Kurdistan Region as political parties vie for influence over its future direction.
