ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Masrour Barzani, Vice President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), delivered a key speech on Sunday, addressing shop owners and traders in Erbil as part of the KDP’s ongoing campaign for List 190 in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Barzani emphasized the role of voters in determining the future governance of the Kurdistan Region, urging them to participate in shaping the region's path forward.

“You can be the decision-makers, and you can decide how the future of the Kurdistan Region will be governed. The way to determine governance and power is to vote,” Barzani stated.

He reiterated the KDP’s foundational mission to serve the people of the Kurdistan Region, a commitment that has been in place since the party's inception. According to Barzani, “Anyone who believes in democracy, justice, stability, and the protection of the dignity of Kurdistan's territory will always have a place within the KDP.”

Barzani stressed that a vote for the KDP is a vote for security, stability, and prosperity in Kurdistan. He underscored the party’s long history of defending the region, particularly in times of crisis, saying, “When the Kurdistan Region has been attacked, the KDP has always been at the forefront of its defense, and it will remain steadfast.”

The KDP Vice President warned against being swayed by campaign slogans and promises from other parties. “Let no one be deceived by slogans,” Barzani cautioned. “Anyone can make promises, but the KDP has never made a promise it hasn’t fulfilled. Trust in the KDP.”

KDP’s Focus on Citizens and Prosperity

Barzani highlighted the KDP’s focus on prioritizing the welfare of citizens, both during the revolution and in governance. “Serving Kurdish citizens and protecting their dignity has always been the axis of the KDP’s policy. We want the people of Kurdistan to live with pride and dignity, and under the leadership of Barzani and the KDP, Kurdistan will continue to move towards progress and prosperity.”

He further explained the meaning behind the KDP’s campaign slogan, “Stability, prosperity, unity, and resilience,” noting that these words reflect the party’s history and goals for the region. “The KDP does not want Kurdistan to face instability; we are committed to peace and progress,” he added.

Barzani also acknowledged the public's growing fatigue with ongoing conflicts and instability. “The people of the Kurdistan Region are tired of these conflicts and instability. The KDP has never been a source of tension—whether with local forces, neighboring countries, or regional powers. We stand for peace, stability, and national security.”

Call for Unity and Cooperation

Barzani emphasized that the KDP has consistently worked with other political parties in the interest of the Kurdistan Region. “Anyone who prioritizes the interests of the Kurdistan nation will find a willing partner in the KDP. We extend a hand of friendship to work together for the common good.”

Reflecting on the hardships faced by the Kurdish people under previous regimes, including the destruction of 4,500 villages and the use of chemical weapons, Barzani pointed out the resilience of the Kurdish spirit. “The KDP has played a vital role in preserving the will of the Kurdish people, instilling the belief that we are equal to all other nations.”

Development and Governance

Barzani noted the progress made in the reconstruction and development of the Kurdistan Region, though he acknowledged that there is still work to be done. “While all services may not yet be at the desired level, compared to our surroundings, Kurdistan is advancing. It will continue to become more prosperous and advanced day by day.”

He also addressed the importance of unity in governance, stating that “together, we are stronger and more capable. All classes and communities in Kurdistan should have equal rights, and all religions should live fairly under Kurdish governance.”

Barzani criticized other parties for violating the rights of minority communities, stating that “some parties boast about denying Turkmen and Christians their rightful representation, but the KDP has always defended the rights of all communities.”

Barzani also reiterated the KDP’s commitment to prioritizing the needs of the people over personal or party interests. “The KDP is not willing to sacrifice the people for its own gain. Our call to all Kurdish people and political parties is to join hands in defending the constitutional rights of the Kurdistan Region.”

Barzani urged voters to carefully consider the party’s past achievements as they head to the polls. “When the KDP calls for prosperity, progress, stability, and peace, we see others calling for destruction and instability. A party that has never stood on the front lines with the Peshmerga cannot claim to represent the people of Kurdistan. We are here to serve, not to rule, and we will continue to strive for a better future for the Kurdistan Region.”

The KDP’s List 190 campaign continues as the region prepares for the upcoming parliamentary elections, with Barzani calling for unity, stability, and progress as the key pillars of the KDP’s vision for the future of Kurdistan.
