KDP President Masoud Barzani visits Erbil Citadel, inspects development projects

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Masoud Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), visited the historic Erbil Citadel on Tuesday to oversee ongoing development projects aimed at preserving and enhancing the ancient landmark.

During his visit, President Barzani toured the citadel’s museum, where he was briefed on current restoration efforts and initiatives aimed at promoting the cultural and historical significance of the UNESCO World Heritage site.

The visit drew a large crowd, as citizens gathered at the citadel to welcome and meet with the KDP leader, reflecting the significance of the location both culturally and politically. The citadel, which stands as one of the oldest continuously inhabited sites in the world, is a symbol of Kurdish heritage and history.

Barzani’s inspection of the restoration projects underlines the importance of preserving the region’s historical landmarks while promoting tourism and economic development in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region.

The Erbil Citadel continues to attract both local and international visitors, cementing its place as a cultural and historical beacon in the heart of Kurdistan.
