Kurdistan Regional President, Nechirvan Barzani attended German Unity Day

The German Consul General, Albrecht von Wittke gladly and highly valued President Nechirvan Barzani’s attendance in the ceremony and reaffirmed his country's support, relations and friendship with the Kurdistan Region.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – In a ceremony, which was attended by a number of senior governmental and political party officials, diplomats, on Tuesday evening in Erbil, the Kurdistan Regional President, Nechirvan Barzani extended his congratulations to the German in the celebration of German Unity Day.

The Region’s President Nechirvan Barzani also expressed Kurdistan Region's appreciation towards Germany’s consistent support and cooperation.

The German Consul General, Albrecht von Wittke gladly and highly valued President Nechirvan Barzani’s attendance in the ceremony and reaffirmed his country's support, relations and friendship with the Kurdistan Region.

The annual commemoration of German Unity Day celebrates on October 3rd, since 1990, when the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) joined the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany). 

German Unity Day has become the German National Holiday since 1990, in which the reunification was formally took place.

During delivering his speech, the German Consul General in Erbil, hoped the Kurdistan parliamentary elections to be in a free and transparent manner.

“The Kurdistan Region will hold parliamentary elections on October 20th, 2024. We hope that there will be an expression of a developed democracy through free, transparent and fair election” Wittke added “the German Government asked its parliament to extend coalition troops’ mission in Erbil for another 15 months”

According to his word, the Germany has close and distant relations with Iraq, especially with the Kurdistan Region. Germany's cooperation with the Kurdistan Region continues to grow.

It was highlighted that this is the tenth year of the cooperation between Germany and Iraq to promote development, the Kurdistan Region was always included.

Furthermore, the cultural relations between the two states are progressing, as well as the security cooperations will be entering a new phase and in a new shape with the region and federal government.
