Arctic blast set to plunge Kurdistan Region temperatures by 8°C
Kamal explained that temperatures are expected to drop by approximately 8°C (14°F) from Friday onwards. "This cold spell is likely to persist for at least a week, possibly longer," he added. "We can expect cool days and cold nights during this period."

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – A significant weather shift is expected to impact the Kurdistan Region and parts of Asia and Europe, as a cold front of Russian origin moves into the area, according to local meteorological experts.
This arctic blast is forecasted to bring a substantial drop in temperatures, potentially lasting a week or more.
Mohammed Kamal, a prominent meteorologist, told Kurdistan24, "We anticipate a cold air mass of Russian origin to reach the Kurdistan Region and parts of Asia and Europe starting Friday, Oct. 18."
Kamal explained that temperatures are expected to drop by approximately 8°C (14°F) from Friday onwards. "This cold spell is likely to persist for at least a week, possibly longer," he added. "We can expect cool days and cold nights during this period."
The meteorologist also noted that rain and thunderstorms are predicted for the mountainous areas of Duhok province and the independent Soran administration on Oct. 17 and 18.
This sudden temperature drop comes at a crucial time for the Kurdistan Region, as it coincides with the special voting day for the Kurdistan Parliament elections, scheduled for Oct. 18. The general voting is set to take place on Oct. 20.
The Kurdistan Region experiences a semi-arid climate with hot summers and cool to cold winters. The region's varied topography, including mountains and plains, contributes to diverse weather patterns across different areas.
Such significant temperature changes are not uncommon in the region during autumn, as it transitions from the hot summer months to the cooler winter season. However, a drop of 8°C is considered substantial and may affect daily life and activities in the region.
The timing of this weather event, coinciding with the important parliamentary elections, adds an extra layer of consideration for both voters and election officials.
As the Kurdistan Region prepares for this significant weather event alongside its important political process, residents are encouraged to stay informed about both the evolving weather conditions and election procedures.
